Winchester's
first Certified Green Community
Edgewater
Preserve is a new neighborhood for active adults,
where one member of the household is over 55 years of
age. The location, Back Ashuelot Road in Winchester, NH,
is ideal for this kind of a community with hiking,
fishing and canoeing right in it's own backyard, yet
still being within walking distance of the conveniences
of town.
This will be a community of "garden homes". The
definition of a garden home is a "free standing home on
it's own small lot". The entire home is completely owned
by the homeowner, as well as the plot of land it sits
on. The roadway and the conservation land is owned and
governed by a Home Owner's Association, made up of all
homeowners.
During every phase of the entire project, from site
planning through the home building process, we are
striving to meet or exceed the strict guidelines of the
National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Green
Building Program. Build Green NH will provide
verification and certification services. Our goal is for
the entire development to be an NAHB Certified Green
Home Neighborhood we can all be proud of.
The development consists of 6.64 acres of land that is
subdivided into eight residential lots, each
approximately one quarter acre in size, situated on
either side of a new private dead-end road. The
remainder of the acreage is deeded conservation land.
The homes, each one custom designed by Kathy Beaman,
AKBD, CGP, and custom built by Beaman Land & Home Sales,
Inc. will likely be of "hybrid home construction". This
is a blending of traditional site-built craftsmanship
with modular built home components. It is the smart way
to build. We design and engineer our new home to be
largely built in a controlled environment, out of the
snow and the rain and the mud. We use custom
craftsmanship to build in the highest quality finishes.
This was the start of our "jewel box" concept.
| The result is a home construction system that is highly
efficient, timely and delivers maximum precision and
quality control. We are partnering with Preferred
Building Systems of Claremont, NH (www.preferredbuildings.com),
Huntington Homes of East Montpelier, VT (www.huntingtonhomesvt.com)
and Bensonwood Timberframes (www.bensonwood.com)
to build the main structures and will be employing the
area's skilled craftspeople to finish them once on-site.
